The coasts of Finland is light by a group of unique, old lighthouses. They do not last for future generations without active oeprations. The Finnish lighthouse association is working for preserving the lighthouses and the lighthouse culture as well as is playing as a forum for active lighthouse enthusiasts.

Hard work for Märket lighthouse

Finnish Lighthouse Society is working to save the unique Märket lighthouse on the border of Finland and Sweden ten kilometres from the nearest neighbours. We are renovating the unique lighthouse from 1885, which had stood empty for 30 years on the border waiting for new ideas of use.

A remarkable step was taken last summer: the painting of the lighthouse:

We continue repairing it and we invite every lighthouse lover in the world to participate.

The Finnish Lighthouse Society organized a Nordic Lighthouse Conference this time in Mariehamn, Aland, 5.-6.6.2009

The conference is organized every third year in some of the Nordic countries. The themes for the conference are various forms of the protection of lighthouses and lighthouse museums in the Nordic Countries.

The conference program contained, in addition to lectures, visits to fine lighthouses of Aland, e.g. to Märket. Read more: Conference
