In the morning a Finnish Navy vessel appeared out of the fog. Heikki took the boat and went
out to greet his former colleagues. On his way out he took a photo of Märket seen in a light fog.

The others did not quite understand why Heikki did not use the engine. Maybe he just opted for some physical exercise???

What if he could not find the start button? Or maybe he just wanted to be sure not to hit the prop on any of the rocks. He did not say!

Why not use the engine?

Traditions are important. This we take into account in all the repair work here on the island. One important Finnish summer tradition is roasting sausages on an open fire or coals. We decided to respect this tradition as well.

A traditional snack

I am sure that we all understand the importance of first impression. This is why we decided to use our five hours of dry weather to clean up the front of the lighthouse buildings – the “courtyard”.

All the various bits and pieces of wood were cut and chopped up for firewood. Now when visitors arrive, they will be greeted by a neat yard.

Then we had to find a place to put all the wood and keep it dry. This meant some work in clearing up the boatroom. It is strange how by just putting all of the same stuff into one pile, some free space for firewood can be liberated. And we swept the floor as well. Nice and neat. Just the way we like it.

Even though we all know how photos can be manipulated there is still some power in a picture. We have told you about the work Pasi has done on some scaffolding.

We have also claimed that there is free space on the floor in the magazine. That the obstacle course has been changed into a highway. Just to show you what we mean, here are two pictures.

There is something about Märket that inspires us to try to take artistic photos. Is it the sea air or just the simple beauty of the island, I do not know for sure.

But all cameras seem to fill up with close ups of rocks and plants, panoramas of the scenery and pictures of the buildings in all possible light conditions. Here are a few that we took today.

Any hole is worth the effort

We are enjoying our stay and really hope to see lots of visitors here this summer. Here is a picture to tempt them.

Welcome to Märket
